Kyle Busch blames himself for a Feb. 21 wreck at Daytona International Speedway that left his right leg broken.

Busch discussed the incident for the first time on Wednesday.

The crash occurred during an Xfinity Series race at Daytona. Busch lost control of the car, which spun off the track and crashed straight into a concrete wall.

“From the beginning, the wreck was essentially all my fault,” he said, according to The Charlotte Observer. “I was being greedy trying to win the race.”

Busch was left with a compound fracture in his right leg and a left mid-foot fracture.

“I’m alive today just because the fact that the restraints worked, the seat worked, the HANS device worked – everything worked,” Busch said. “I can’t say enough about NASCAR and their innovations. From my knees up, no problem, not a mark on me, not a bruise, not a headache, not a neck ache, nothing."

Busch, who is currently using a walking boot on his left foot, said that he is hoping to return to competitive racing in July, though doctors have not yet given him an official timetable.
