F1 teams warned about conduct after Mercedes dummy pit stop

LONDON (AP) Formula One teams will be warned about their pit lane conduct following Mercedes' dummy stop during Sunday's British Grand Prix.

Mercedes sent mechanics into the pit lane in an attempt to unsettle Williams, which led the opening phase of the race at Silverstone.

Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff acknowledged that ''it was a bit of a game that didn't work'' although one of his drivers, Lewis Hamilton, went on to win.

F1 race director Charlie Whiting says he will warn teams at the Hungarian GP later this month ''that we will want to see and hear evidence that they were actually intending to stop.''

Whiting says going into the pit lane for ''no valid reason is not allowed but the difficulty would be proving it was a clear breach.''
