Fan walks along F1 track during Singapore GP

SINGAPORE (AP) The fan who wandered onto the track during Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix was later arrested by Singapore police.

A statement issued by the FIA, Formula One's governing body, said ''a 27-year-old man has been arrested and is assisting police with investigations.''

On lap 37, the man - dressed in T-shirt and shorts - was seen wandering along the edge of the track near the Anderson Bridge section of the street circuit.

Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari, who won the race, was the first to come across the intruder and cried out over the radio ''there is a fan on the track!'' and the safety car was immediately deployed.

After walking a short distance, the man climbed over the trackside barrier, and with the danger passed the race soon resumed.

Vettel said after the race that the fan's actions were ''pretty crazy'' as cars were traveling at around 280 kilometers per hour (175 mph) approaching that corner.

''I had to look again because I wasn't sure whether I had a problem with my eyesight,'' Vettel said. ''I think I saw him taking a picture. I hope it was a good one at least, I hope it was in focus.''

Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, who was runner-up in the race, said the emergence of the safety car at that point of the race hurt his winning chances.

''Thanks to the guy, appreciate it,'' Ricciardo quipped sarcastically after the race. ''I was tempted to swerve, clip him.''
