Ganassi signs former F1 driver Max Chilton for 2016 season

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Former Formula One driver Max Chilton will drive the full IndyCar Series season for Chip Ganassi Racing.

Team owner Chip Ganassi made the announcement on Monday, saying Chilton will pilot the No. 8 Chevrolet in 2016. Sage Karam and Sebastian Saavedra drove that car last year.

The addition of Chilton means Ganassi will maintain a four-car lineup that includes defending series champion Scott Dixon, Tony Kanaan and Charlie Kimball.

Chilton made 35 starts in F1 between 2013 and 2014, with a best finish of 12th, and drove a partial season in Indy Lights in 2015. He notched one win, six top-three finishes and 10 top-five results in the IndyCar feeder series.

Ganassi says the 24-year-old driver ''brings a good deal of experience'' to the team's lineup.
