Olympic cycling champ Chris Hoy to compete in Le Mans

LONDON (AP) Six-time Olympic cycling champion Chris Hoy will compete in the Le Mans 24 Hour race in June, fulfilling an ambition he's had since receiving a toy car as a child.

The 40-year-old Scot will share the driving of a Nissan-powered Ligier JS P2 chassis with two teammates in the prestigious race on June 18-19.

Hoy will become the first summer Olympic medalist to compete at Le Mans. Eight winter Olympians have done so.

Since retiring from cycling after the London Olympics in 2012, Hoy has raced in the British GT Championship in 2014 after going through Nissan's intensive driver development program. He then took part in the European Le Mans Series in 2015.

Hoy says he is looking forward to feeling the ''excitement, the nervousness, the adrenaline'' of racing again.
