Dane Cameron, Eric Curran win again at Road America

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (AP) Dane Cameron and Eric Curran raced to their second consecutive IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship victory of the season and second in a row at Road America on Sunday.

Curran started the No. 31 Action Express Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype from fifth on the grid and drove the opening stint, before handing the car over to Cameron for the finish in the 2-hour, 40 minute event. Cameron passed Jordan Taylor in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Corvette DP to take the lead for the first time with just over an hour remaining.

Cameron briefly lost the lead during the final pit-stop sequence, but retook it with 35 minutes to go. He was able to get away from teammate Joao Barbosa in the No. 5 Corvette DP on a late restart with approximately five minutes remaining and held the advantage over the closing three laps, winning by 1.152 seconds over Barbosa.

It was the third consecutive 1-2 finish in IMSA competition for the Action Express Racing team. It enabled Cameron and Curran to close the gap in the Prototype class championship standings to one point, 253-252, behind two-time defending champions Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi with two races.

''I was able to get a good restart and keep it going,'' Cameron said. ''I had a little scare where I lost the dash, and wasn't able to read anything to know if I was saving fuel or not. But then the yellow came out and the dash came back, and luckily we didn't have to save any fuel after that. It's great to see what this team has done, building it up since 2010. And you can see what we've come to in the last few weekends.''

In the GT Le Mans class, No. 4 Corvette drivers Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner picked up their fourth victory of the season in a wild finish. After restarting fifth in class behind two Porsches, a Ferrari and Richard Westbrook's race-leading Ford GT, Milner saw one Porsche and the Ferrari both spin off course in the closing laps while challenging for the lead.

He overtook the other Porsche with two laps to go and passed Westbrook on the final lap to get the victory. The win enabled Gavin and Milner to extend their lead in the GTLM point standings to 13 over Westbrook and co-driver Ryan Briscoe, 264-251.

Dodge Viper co-drivers Ben Keating and Jeroen Bleekemolen won the GT Daytona class for the second consecutive year at Road America. Tom Kimber-Smith and Robert Alon won in Prototype Challenge, their second class victory of the season.
