Fittipaldi gets break when Taylor crashes in qualifying

DETROIT (AP) Christian Fittipaldi has been looking for some good fortune to help slow down Ricky and Jordan Taylor.

He might have just gotten a break.

Ricky Taylor crashed Friday, forcing IMSA SportsCar qualifying to be abandoned.

That sent him to the back of the 13-car field and gave Fittipaldi the pole for the Chevrolet Sports Car Classic. Taylor was treated and released from Belle Isle's infield care center. He and his younger brother, Jordan, have won all four races for Wayne Taylor Racing this year and they will have to rally from the back of the pack to win Saturday.

Fittipaldi said recently he needs luck to catch up to the Taylor brothers.

''I am happy to be starting in the front, but at the same time, I'm frustrated that it happened the way it happened because we had a competitive car,'' he said. ''Sometimes rules go in your favor and sometimes they don't.''
