The Racing Italian Sausage that often appears on the field at Milwaukee Brewers games had made an appearance at spring training but now is nowhere to be found and officials have no idea who might be behind the situation.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Wednesday afternoon that the 7-foot-long $3,000 costume had left a fundraiser on Feb. 16 with an unidentified person and then made an appearance at a bar in Cedarburg, WI an hour later.

Cedarburg police Detective Jeff Vahsholtz said he is unsure whether the person now in possession of the sausage will face charges:

"We thought it was funny at the time. Now we're just hoping someone returns it."

The Racing Sausages, which are owned by Milwaukee-based sausage company Klement's, include the Bratwurst, the Polish Sausage, the Hot Dog and the Chorizo, and have routinely made appearances at Brewers games as part of a tradition with the team.
