The White Sox and free-agent Cuban slugger Jose Abreu agreed on a six-year, $68 million deal, pending a physical, as first confirmed by MLB.com late Thursday.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports was the first to tweet yet-to-be finalized terms.

Earlier Thursday, MLB.com reported Abreu had narrowed the list of teams he potentially will sign with to the Astros, Red Sox and White Sox. Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com subsequently reported the White Sox were leading the chase for Abreu.

PRICE: Yasiel Puig causing a stir

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound right-handed slugger hit .360 average with three homers and nine RBIs in six games for Cuba in this year's World Baseball Classic. He won 2011 Most Valuable Player honors in Cuba after hitting .453 with 33 home runs and 93 RBIs in just 66 games.
