The Dallas Cowboys have signed Jon Kitna as their third-string quarterback, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

The Cowboys tried out several quarterbacks on Tuesday, including Tyler Thigpen, Caleb Hanie and John Skelton, but in the end decided to go with Kitna, who had served as the team's backup QB from 2009-'11, and started nine games for the team in 2010 when Tony Romo was sidelined with a broken clavicle.

SI WIRE: Jerry Jones: Tony Romo not ruled out, Jason Garrett's job safe

Romo's health has been the topic of great speculation since the team's win over Washington on Sunday. ESPN has reported that Romo will not play on Sunday and is in fact done for the season with a back injury. Coach Jason Garrett has denied those reports and has said Romo's status for the Week 17 has not yet been decided.
