Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone announced Friday that Thad Lewis will start in place of E.J. Manuel again, who "did not progress as needed" to start Sunday against the Patriots.

Lewis also started at quarterback last week against the Miami Dolphins, completing 15-of-25 passes for 193 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the 19-0 win. Lewis has completed 77-of-128 passes for 845 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions in his four appearances this season.

Manuel has now missed two games due to a left knee sprain he suffered in Week 15 against the Jaguars. Marrone said Manuel will not need surgery but will need rest and strength training in the offseason to heal.
