49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman is the latest candidate on Penn State's list.

The school has already interviewed 49ers offensive coordinator Roman, according to Bruce Feldman of CBS. The interview was conducted in Chicago on Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Roman, who was a candidate for the Penn State gig a few years ago, has no head coaching experience. He has worked three seasons as San Francisco's offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh and worked the same position on Harbaugh's staff at Stanford.

After Al Golden recommitted to Miami, Feldman reported Tuesday that Vanderbilt coach James Franklin was the "clear front-runner" for the position.

The Penn State head coaching position became available after Bill O'Brien took over as the Texans' head coach.
