Los Angeles Angels pitcher Mark Mulder's comeback attempt has been cut short by a ruptured Achilles tendon, according to Mike Digiovanni of the Los AngelesTimes.

The injury occurred on Saturday while Mulder went through agility drills at Angels camp, and was confirmed later in the day by team officials.

The 36-year old Mulder, who had not pitched since 2008, signed a minor league contract with the Angels this offseason that could have been worth up to $6 million with incentives, in the hopes that he could return to the mound.
