Pau Gasol questions Lakers' discipline after blowout loss to Pacers

It's been a tough season for the Lakers, and after Tuesday's blowout loss in Indiana, veteran Pau Gasol voiced his frustration with the team's lack of discipline, which he said is a result of so many expiring contracts.

"That's why you have to be disciplined and implement discipline, that's how you kind of make that better or make that not a factor," Gasol told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin after the game when asked about the Lakers' collection of players, himself included, on expiring deals. "I don't think there's a lot of discipline right now."

Only three of the 15 players on the Lakers' roster are under contract beyond this season, including the 33-year-old Gasol, who's at times had a rocky relationship with head coach Mike D'Antoni.

Gasol was also upset with D'Antoni's decision to play a small lineup against a Pacers team with a lot of size. The Lakers were outrebounded 62-42 and lost by 20 to fall to 19-38. They have lost six of seven and 13 of 16.

"If we want to continue to play small, we have to play to that advantage and utilize more quickness," Gasol said. "But if we get outrebounded by 20 rebounds, I don't care who you are and what you do, it's not going to work. You're not going to win."

Los Angeles plays in Memphis Wednesday night, and the Grizzlies have a strong frontcourt with 6-foot-9 bruiser Zach Randolph and Gasol's younger brother, 7-1 center Marc. Pau believes that'll place even greater importance on playing unselfishly, something he says the Lakers aren't doing lately — especially since acquiring Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks from Golden State last week.

Bazemore and Brooks combined to shoot 29 of the team's 90 field-goal attempts Tuesday night.

"There's just too many individual actions right now," Gasol said. "It's really not a good flow and rhythm out there. You get two guys that are just coming in brand new and they're playing a lot of minutes, so that's going to take some time for the team and the units to kind of understand each other and be on the same page."
