Mexican international Hector Moreno has extended his contract at Dutch champion AZ Alkmaar. His previous deal expired in 2012, but the young defender has applied his signature to a new deal that will keep him with the club until 2014.

The 21-year-old joined AZ from Mexican side UNAM in 2008 and quickly developed into an important first-team member after a difficult start at his new club.

Moreno has made 23 league appearances for the Eredivisie outfit, scoring one goal. The center back has been sidelined since sustaining a foot injury in December but is on the verge of returning to match action.

The hot prospect's impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed in the rest of Europe as Moreno was linked with Spanish side Villarreal last winter. Additionally, a string of unnamed Serie A teams are reportedly following his personal development.
