There's no way to sugarcoat it: Wednesday was a bad day for Schalke. And considering the club has to play Bayern Munich at Allianz Arena on Saturday, it's probably going to get a lot worse before it gets better. But at least the club can point to one positive from its 6-1 loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's superb volley from the top of the box in stoppage time of the first-leg rout put Schalke on the board and provided a consolation prize (albeit an incredibly small one at that) for the Bundesliga outfit. During a game in which Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale provided highlight-reel strikes of their own, Huntelaar's might (debatable) have been the best individual effort of the bunch.
