Chelsea announces signing of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid

After a disappointing World Cup campaign for Spain, Diego Costa returned home to focus on the next steps of his club career. There had been some rumblings of a potential move from Atletico Madrid to Chelsea, and that was confirmed on Tuesday. 

Chelsea FC has announced that it has agreed to a deal with Atletico Madrid to acquire the rights to the star forward. Chelsea met the reported £32 million buy-out clause to complete the deal, according to the announcement. With Costa coming in, Chelsea officially offered farewell wishes to Cameroon forward Samuel Eto'o, who was out of contract and will not be brought back.

Costa joins fellow Spain international Cesc Fabregas as major signings during the World Cup for Chelsea, which is looking to reclaim the Premier League and Champions League titles under Jose Mourinho. It was Costa's penalty kick in the second leg of Atletico Madrid's Champions League semifinal bout vs. Chelsea that gave Atletico a 2-1 lead en route to a 3-1 aggregate triumph that eliminated the Blues. 

Costa, a naturalized Spanish citizen who battled leg injuries throughout the end of Atletico Madrid's league and Champions League campaign, recovered in time to play for Spain in the World Cup on his native Brazilian soil.

In order to fill the void left by Costa's departure to Stamford Bridge, Atletico is reportedly expected to target Spain and Manchester City forward Alvaro Negredo.
