Report: Luis Suarez's appeal of FIFA ban set for August 8
Luis Suarez's appeal of his four-month ban from "football-related" activities has been set for Aug. 8, BBC Sport reports.
The Uruguay forward was suspended after biting Italy's Giorgio Chiellini during a 2014 FIFA World Cup match. Suarez and the players union, FIFPro, argued last month that the ban "lacked clarity."
Suarez's first appeal was denied by FIFA in early July. The second was filed by Suarez, Uruguay and Barcelona, the club the 27-year-old joined in July from Liverpool.
BBC Sport reports that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) has agreed to come to a quick decision, possibly as soon as the end of the week after the hearing.
Barcelona's first La Liga match is scheduled for Aug. 24. If Suarez does not win the appeal, he will not be able to play for the club until late October.
After the incident, Chiellini said he thought the striker's punishment was "excessive." Suarez later apologized to the Italian and promised he would not be involved in a similar incident again.
Suarez was also banned from playing in nine international matches and was fined 100,000 Swiss francs ($110,400).
