Real Salt Lake has acquired defender Jamison Olave from the New York Red Bulls, the team announced Thursday.

Olave, who was traded to the Red Bulls prior to the 2013 MLS season, played for Real Salt Lake from 2008-2012.

The Red Bulls received allocation money for the veteran.

Olave played in 56 games (55 starts) for the Red Bulls. He also scored four goals and tallied an assist.

The 33-year-old played for Real Salt Lake when the club won MLS Cup 2009. He was named the 2010 MLS Defender of the Year during a season in which the team allowed just 20 goals in 30 matches. In his five seasons at Real, he also scored 10 goals and two assists in 120 games.

From MLSSoccer.com:

"This was a difficult decision for the club but was made mainly due to salary cap considerations," said Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh in a statement. "It's disappointing to see a player like Jamison leave the club, but we want to thank him for his service to the New York Red Bulls and we wish him all the best on his return to his previous club."
