Despite her well publicized off-field disciplinary issues in the past year, Solo remains the best goalkeeper in the world, primarily due to her supreme shot-stopping ability. The U.S.’s starting goalkeeper since 2005, she set a new team record for shutouts in 2014 and will be critical in any chance the U.S. has to win its third World Cup. Solo has been a WPS and NWSL stalwart, and she played every minute of the Seattle Reign’s 20-game 2014 regular season, leading the league in wins and pitching five shutouts along the way.

She has been in goal for half of the U.S.’s 10 Algarve Cup wins, including the latest in 2015 when she reassumed starting duties from Ashlyn Harris after a one-month suspension. Solo made the 10-player shortlist for the FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year award in 2008, 2010 and 2011.
