Carli Lloyd scored the USWNT's only and deciding goal in its 1–0 victory over China on Friday, heading in a ball off of a long pass from Julie Johnston.

Donning the USWNT captain's armband with Christie Rampone and Abby Wambach both not starting, her header came in the 51st minute Friday night of a game that had previously seen the Americans miss a number of good chances in the opening 45 minutes.

Lloyd nearly struck first for the Americans in the first half when she glanced a free kick off the hands of Chinese goalie Wang Fei in the game's 36th minute. She also set up Amy Rodriguez for a prime scoring opportunity in the second minute, only for Rodriguez to chip her 1-v-1 chance with Fei wide of the net.

The U.S. will face Germany in the semifinals on June 30 at Montreal's Olympic Stadium for the chance to reach the World Cup final. Germany prevailed over France in penalty kicks after the two played to a 1-1 draw.
