Mexican star Giovani dos Santos could be headed to the Los Angeles Galaxy, according to a report from Spanish publication El Periodico Mediterraneo.

The Galaxy and Dos Santos' Spanish club Villarreal are reportedly in "advanced talks" on a $7.7 million transfer to bring the player back to North America. His addition is pending changes in MLS rules that allow for a "Core Player" roster spot, which is essentially a fourth designated player slot for teams (such as Los Angeles) already fielding three DP's.

Los Angeles currently has Robbie Keane, Omar Gonzalez and new arrival Steven Gerrard as designated players, and Dos Santos would not join the team until August at the earliest, at which point MLS is expected to have made its rule changes. Goal.com reports the core player rule would likely go into effect over the summer.

Dos Santos wouldn't be the first Mexican star to play for the Galaxy, as the club previously brought in Cuahutemóc Blanco and Rafa Marquez.
