Watch: Carli Lloyd penalty kick goal gives U.S. 1-0 lead over Germany
Carli Lloyd scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to give the United States a 1–0 lead over Germany in the Women's World Cup semifinals en route to a 2-0 victory on Tuesday.
The U.S. was awarded the penalty kick after Alex Morgan was upended at the fringe of the box by Germany defender Annike Krahn. Lloyd put the penalty shot in the back right of the net, past German goalkeeper Nadine Angerer, who dove to the left.
It was the third goal of the tournament for Lloyd, and the second time she scored on a penalty kick. Her penalty kick goal in the round of 16 helped the U.S. beat Colombia 2–0, and her header against China sealed a 1-0 win in the quarterfinals.

You can see the foul that led to the penalty below. The spot of the foul has drawn debate over whether it was inside or outside of the penalty box, with Germany coach Silvia Neid commenting on the latter in her postgame remarks.
Nine minutes earlier, Germany's Celia Sasic previously missed a second-half penalty kick that would have given her team a 1–0 lead.
