After recording five clean sheets in the Women's World Cup, United States goalie Hope Solo won the Golden Glove Award as the tournament's top goalkeeper.

Solo allowed a total of three goals in the United States' seven games. The American defense set a Women's World Cup record by holding its opponents scoreless for 540 minutes.

After Australia scored a goal in the 27th minute of the United States' first group stage match, the U.S. did not allow another goal until Japan's Yuki Ogimi scored in the 27th minute of the final. Solo was beaten again in the 52nd minute after a ball glanced off the head of American defender Julie Johnston.
