Watch: Tobin Heath caps USA's 5–2 win over Japan in World Cup final
Just two minutes after a Julie Johnston own goal brought Japan to within two goals and sliced a four-goal lead in half, United States midfielder Tobin Heath scored to give the Americans a 5–2 lead in the Women's World Cup final.
Heath's goal came after a corner kick where Lauren Holiday's cross went across the mouth of the goal. Morgan Brian was waiting at the back post and squared the ball to Heath, who knocked it home with her first touch.
It was Heath's first goal of the tournament and her 12th in international play.
The USA went onto win by that 5-2 scoreline, capturing a record third Women's World Cup title.
