USWNT forward Alex Morgan to miss 3-4 weeks after knee surgery
U.S. women's national team forward Alex Morgan underwent arthroscopic surgery on her right knee on Friday.
The procedure is expected to sideline Morgan, who plays for the Portland Thorns FC of the National Women's Soccer League, for 3-to-4 weeks. The World Cup champion U.S. begins a 10-game victory tour in August with a match against Costa Rica, and according to U.S. Soccer's announcement, Morgan could be back in time for the entire set of friendlies.
Morgan played through a left knee contusion during the U.S.'s run in the World Cup, which concluded with a 5–2 win over Japan in the championship match. She logged 434 minutes and five starts across the team's seven matches in the tournament, scoring the eventual game-winning goal in the 2-0 quarterfinal win over Colombia.
Morgan, 26, has scored 52 goals over 91 appearances for the national team.
