Seattle Sounders midfielder Marco Pappa was arrested Sunday morning for driving under the influence and speeding, the team announced Monday

Pappa will be assessed by MLS’s Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health program and will be barred from playing any matches until the assessment is complete.

“We are gathering information on this matter and have been in contact with the league office, the MLS Players Union, local law enforcement and Marco directly,” Sounders general manager Garth Lagerwey said in a statement. “We will continue to work in cooperation with all involved parties and will have no further comment until more information is available.”

Pappa, 27, came on as a substitute in the 64th minute of Saturday’s home game against the Colorado Rapids. He has started 15 of Seattle’s 21 games this season and scored two goals.
