Panama officials call for CONCACAF Referees Committee to resign
The Panamanian Football Federation (FEPAFUT) is calling for each member of the CONCACAF Referees Committee to resign after the country's controversial loss in the Gold Cup semifinals against Mexico.
Panama led Mexico 1-0 late in their match before referees awarded Mexico a questionable penalty decision, allowing Mexico to level the game. Mexico was awarded another spot kick in extra time, leading to the eventual game-winning goal. Panama was forced to play with 10 men after the 25th minute, when American referee Mark Geiger showed Panamanian striker Luis Tejada a straight red card.
"What happened on Wednesday in the semi-final against Mexico was the last straw in a repetitive situation that has been taking place since our team's first game," FEPAFUTsaid in statement. "It was evident and everyone is witness to the fact that Panama were superior to Mexico on the field of play. We demand quick answers."
U.S. Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati is the chairman of the referees committee.
Mexico was also embroiled in controversy after its quarterfinal match against Costa Rica, which also featured a late, questionable penalty call.

CONCACAF officials have yet to respond to the Panamanian Football Federation. Mexico will face Jamaica in the Gold Cup final in Philadelphia on Sunday.
