Watch: LA Galaxy's Robbie Keane scores two for Ireland in Euro qualifier
The world's active leading international goal scorer has added two more to his tally.
LA Galaxy and Republic of Ireland forward Robbie Keane scored twice in a 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win vs. Gibraltar on Friday, bringing his international goal tally to 67 and helping the Irish into third place (and a spot in the playoff round) in its group with three qualifiers remaining. Keane is now 10 behind Pelé's career count of 77 and one behind Germany great Gerd Muller for 12th most all-time. Keane had been tied with Montreal Impact striker Didier Drogba entering the day (Drogba retired internationally last summer).
Ireland led 1-0 before Keane scored twice in a two-minute span early in the second half.
For his first, he scored on the easiest of tap-ins. Jonathan Walters's cross was redirected off a defender and off the post, and it fell to Keane on the doorstep.

Then, after Wes Hoolahan, who assisted on Ireland's opener, was pulled down in the area, Keane buried the ensuing spot kick in the 51st minute.

Keane, the reigning MLS MVP, entered the match in top form, scoring 12 goals and assisting on three more in his last eight MLS league games. He scored a hat trick on Gibraltar when they met for the first time in group play last October.
With Scotland's surprise loss to Georgia, Ireland leapfrogged the Scots into third in Group D behind Germany and Poland. The Irish play Georgia on Monday with a chance to add to its point total. Gibraltar, meanwhile, remained without a point and saw its goal differential in the group balloon to a staggering -37 (one goal scored, 38 against).
