Johnson's club says he's injured after Klinsmann hints he wasn't vs. Mexico
Despite intimations from Jurgen Klinsmann that Fabian Johnson asked out of the USA's 3-2 loss to Mexico in extra time Saturday night without being injured, the player's club would beg to differ.
Borussia Monchengladbach said Tuesday that Johnson is being treated for a thigh injury after he was jettisoned from U.S. camp by Klinsmann ahead of Tuesday night's friendly against Costa Rica.
“He said he couldn’t go anymore and I reacted to it and obviously made the substitution," Klinsmann told reporters Monday. "But he just feared to get possibly an injury, but he was not injured in that moment. He got all stiffened up. It’s a muscle issue. That’s normal. In a situation like that, little things often make a difference.
“You have to move on. So [Johnson] is going home after we had a talk. And he can rethink his approach toward his team.”

Johnson had missed five weeks of the club season with a calf muscle injury, but recovered in time to play four games for Borussia Monchengladbach prior to Saturday's CONCACAF Cup clash vs. Mexico. Monchengladbach says Johnson is a doubt for this weekend's game against Eintracht Frankfurt.
