USWNT to play first U.S. game in Hawaii as part of victory tour

The USWNT will play Trinidad & Tobago in Hawaii as part of its World Cup victory tour.

The U.S. women's national team is heading west–way west–for one of its final matches on its World Cup victory tour.

The reigning world champions will play Trinidad & Tobago at Honolulu's Aloha Stadium on Dec. 6, becoming the first U.S. team, men's or women's, to play in Hawaii. The match is one of six remaining on the U.S. slate. Two take place this month, Oct. 21 and 25 against Brazil in Seattle and Orlando, respectively. The final four will take place in an 11-day stretch in December, beginning with the Trinidad & Tobago bout.

The U.S. will play T&T again on Dec. 10 at the Alamodome in San Antonio prior to taking on an undisclosed team on Dec. 13 at an unnamed venue. The victory tour wraps up at the New Orleans Superdome, where the U.S. will take on China on Dec. 16.

The U.S. has rolled to four victories–two over Costa Rica, two over Haiti–on the tour thus far. Haiti stepped in as a last-minute replacement for World Cup quarterfinalist Australia, which pulled out of the two agreed-upon friendlies over a player strike.

"When I took this job I was told of the importance of having a wide footprint in terms of where we bring the team to play and this first-ever game in Hawaii certainly stays true to that goal," U.S. manager Jill Ellis said in a statement. "We always enjoy going to new markets and giving fans across the country, and in December across the Pacific Ocean, a chance to see the team play. I know the players and staff are very excited about going to Hawaii and we are looking forward to the experience of being on Oahu and playing this historic match against T&T at Aloha Stadium."
