Man City's De Bruyne nets stoppage-time winner in Champions League
With some of his high-profile teammates ailing and Manchester City looking to earn some breathing room in its Champions League group, Kevin De Bruyne came through in the clutch.
The £55 million summer signing scored a dramatic winner in stoppage time against Sevilla, lifting Manchester City to a 2-1 victory and three points clear of its Spanish foe for second place in the tournament's treacherous Group D. Juventus's 0-0 home draw with Borussia Monchengladbach keeps the Italian side a point ahead of City through three games.
City trailed Sevilla 1-0 after Yevhen Konoplyanka's 30th-minute opener, but an Adil Rami own goal off a Wilfried Bony effort tied the score six minutes later. With City looking to make the most of its home-field opportunity, De Bruyne did what he does best, getting into space and taking a pass from Yaya Toure, cutting centrally on to his left foot and curling a low effort inside the far post.
The goal was De Bruyne's first of his career in the Champions League, and it was his seventh goal in his last nine games for club and country.
