USMNT's Aron Johannsson has surgery, ruled out multiple weeks
U.S. men's national team and Werder Bremen forward Aron Johannsson will be out for "the coming weeks" after undergoing hip surgery on Wednesday, the club announced.
Johannsson missed the USA's CONCACAF Cup playoff against Mexico and following friendly vs. Costa Rica with the injury and has not played for Werder Bremen since Sept. 22. The injury makes him a major doubt to take place in the USA's first 2018 World Cup qualifiers against St. Vincent and The Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago on Nov. 13 and 17, respectively.
"We ran out of options to treat him conservatively and were unable to keep him pain-free in a sustained manner," team doctor Dr. Philip Heitmann told the club's official website.
The 24-year-old Johannsson is in his first season at Werder Bremen, joining the club from AZ Alkmaar over the summer. He has two goals in six appearances for the club, all of which have come in Bundesliga play. He has four international goals since debuting for the U.S. in 2013.
