USA's Jill Ellis named FIFA Coach of the Year for Women's Football
U.S. women's national team head coach Jill Ellis was named the 2015 FIFA Coach of the Year for Women's Football.
Ellis led the USWNT to its first World Cup title since 1999, and she joins former Pia Sundhage (2012) as U.S. managers to win the honors.
Mark Sampson (England national team) and Norio Sasaki (Japan national team) were also nominated for the award.
The U.S. won the 2015 Women’s World Cup with a 5–2 victory over Japan in the final. The team's next big competition will be at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. The U.S. women will look to win their fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal. The team has never won the FIFA Women's World Cup and Olympics in back-to-back years.
Ellis and the national team will play to qualify for the Olympics at the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship in February in Houston and Dallas.
