Manchester City's Vincent Kompany injured in Champions League
Manchester City captain and center back Vincent Kompany exited the club's Champions League match against Dynamo Kyiv on Tuesday with a fifth-minute injury.
The oft-injured Kompany limped off with what appeared to be a recurrence of the calf injury that has limited him to 13 games during the Premier League campaign. His place in Sunday's Manchester derby against rival United would appear to be in doubt, which is a blow for the Citizens, who trail first-place Leicester City by 12 points (with a game in hand) and are hanging on to a Champions League berth by just two points over West Ham. A loss to United would allow the Red Devils to creep within a point of fourth place.
Kompany was replaced by Elaquim Mangala, with City nursing a 3-1 aggregate lead after winning the road leg. The news got worse for City later in the half with the other starting center back, Nicolas Otamendi, exiting with an injury as well. He was replaced by Martin Demichelis.
The club held on after a 0-0 draw at the Etihad, reaching the Champions League quarterfinals for the first time in club history.
