Chelsea defender John Terry has paid for the funeral of an 8-year-old fan who died from leukemia, reports the BBC.

Terry donated £1,600 to the family of Tommi Miller, a young fan who Terry met last year.

“When we visited the stadium, you could tell John Terry was really taken by him and his cheekiness but it was still a shock when we heard,” Tommi’s mom Ruth told BBC. “Tommi obviously made a big impression on him and he was one of his favorite players so it's very special to us.”

Terry arranged to pay for the funeral after a family friend reached out to the footballer on Instagram. Terry responded on the social media platform, telling the family he would pay for the burial, cars and flowers for the family.

“I'm sure his family and friends will give him the send off he deserves,” Terry said.

The funeral will take place on Thursday.
