Leicester City trio headlines PFA Player of the Year nominees
Leicester City's Jamie Vardy, Riyad Mahrez and N'Golo Kante are among the nominees for the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) Player of the Year award, the organization announced Wednesday.
The trio has led Leicester in its improbable Premier League title quest, with the Foxes sitting seven points clear of Tottenham with five games to play.
Tottenham's Harry Kane is also among the nominees, in addition to West Ham's Dimitri Payet and Arsenal's Mesut Ozil.
Kane is also a finalist for the PFA Young Player of the Year, given to the top performer who was 23 or younger to begin the season. Kane won the award last season and is looking to become the first player since Wayne Rooney (2004-05, 2005-06) to win in successive seasons.
Kane's teammate, Dele Alli, is among the six nominees for Young Player of the Year, along with Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho, Everton's Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley, and Stoke City's Jack Butland.
Kane currently leads the Premier League in goals with 22. Vardy is on his tail with 21, while Lukaku and Manchester City's Sergio Aguero have 18 apiece and Mahrez has 16.
