Detroit MLS expansion bid unveils stadium renderings
The group heading up MLS's proposed expansion team in Detroit is moving quickly.
The bid led by Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert and Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores has released its first renderings of a potential downtown stadium at a Wednesday press conference attended by MLS commissioner Don Garber.
The Detroit bid team gave glimpses into what MLS in the city could look like, with Detroit-based architect Rossetti designing the stadium.
MLS has announced that it will expand to 28 teams, with Sacramento and St. Louis said to be leading the pack after the inclusion of Atlanta United FC, Minnesota, LAFC and David Beckham's team in Miami. Detroit has been mentioned as a possibility by Garber before, but with a stadium plan and ownership with strong clout both from a financial and sports perspective, the city appears to have positioned itself nicely for one of the league's next expansion moves.
