Tim Howard to start Everton's final two home games
Tim Howard will get a Goodison Park sendoff before coming back to MLS.
Everton announced that the veteran U.S. men's national team goalkeeper will start the club's final two home games of the season ahead of a summer move to the Colorado Rapids. Howard, who has spent 10 years with Everton, has not played since a Jan. 24 match against Swansea City, being downgraded to backup behind Joel Robles.
Howard, 37, will face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday and Norwich City in the season finale, while Robles starts the away matches in between against Leicester City and Sunderland. Everton is in the midst of a seven-game winless run in all competitions.
"In our last two home games of the season we will be able to honor and acknowledge the outstanding contribution and unforgettable role that Tim Howard has made to our football club in the last 10 seasons," Everton manager Roberto Martinez said in a statement. "Tim will be joining Colorado Rapids at the end of the season, but his legacy will live on for many years in the work that he’s done not just on the pitch but in helping young players to understand just what it means and what it takes to be an Everton player. We wish him well and he’ll be a true blue ambassador wherever he is.”
Howard has played 412 times for Everton, amassing 132 clean sheets as a Toffee. He's in contention to start for the USA this summer at Copa America Centenario.
