Watch: Diego Valeri’s free kick sends Timbers past Toronto FC

Diego Valeri scored a tremendous free kick on Sunday vs. Toronto FC to send the Portland Timbers to a 2–1 win

Midfielder Diego Valeri’s fantastic free-kick goal in the 74th minute gave the Portland Timbers a 2–1 win over Toronto FC on Sunday at Providence Park in Portland.

After a foul by Michael Bradley, Valeri stepped up from nearly 30 yards out and fired home a shot over the wall and past Toronto goalkeeper Clint Irwin. The goal was Valeri’s second of the campaign and 25th in four years in MLS. The 30-year-old Argentine helped Portland win MLS Cup last season and scored the fastest goal in cup final history.

The Timbers’ Fanendo Adi opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Will Johnson, who is in his first season in Toronto after spending the previous three with Portland, equalized in the 40th.
