The Portland Timbers jumped out to a quick 2–0 lead just seven minutes into the MLS Cup final against the Columbus Crew, behind goals from Diego Valeri and Rodney Wallace.

The Portland Timbers jumped out to a quick 2–0 lead just seven minutes into the MLS Cup final against the Columbus Crew, behind goals from Diego Valeri and Rodney Wallace. 

Valeri scored after 27 seconds when Columbus goalie Steve Clark miss placed a pass back to him. Valeri slid in and knocked the ball into the net before Clark was able to clear it. 

Wallace scored on a diving header in the seventh minute off a cross from Lucas Melano.

Columbus’s Kei Kamara scored in the 18th minute to get the Crew on the board.
