MLS capsules: Rapids, Sounders continue climb in standings
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Christian Bolanos scored his third goal in three games and the Vancouver Whitecaps rallied to beat the Portland Timbers 2–1 on Saturday.
Bolanos broke a tie in the 66th minute on a chip into the penalty area that goalkeeper Jake Gleeson allowed to trickle between his legs.
Masato Kudo tied it for Vancouver in the 60th minute with his first MLS goal. Kudo took a deflected pass from Cristian Techera and beat Gleeson at the near post on a low shot.
The Whitecaps (4-5-2) won for the second time in their last seven games.
Nate Borchers scored for Portland (3-4-3) in the 34th minute.
The Timbers had a great chance to tie in the 86th on a three-on-one break, but goalkeeper David Ousted stopped Diego Valeri’s partially deflected shot.
RAPIDS 1, REAL SALT LAKE 0
COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) — Jermaine Jones scored in the 47th minute and Colorado beat Real Salt Lake in the Rocky Mountain Cup.
Colorado (6-2-2) moved atop the Western Conference standings and extended its unbeaten streak to five games. The Rapids’ last loss came in a 1–0 defeat at Real Salt Lake on April 9.
Kevin Doyle drew three defenders in the box and found Jones trailing the play. Jones used the outside of his foot to squeeze a shot inside the far post.

Jones has three goals and two assists in four games with Colorado after being traded from the New England Revolution during the off-season.
The Rapids have won the opening five home games of a season for the first time since 2003. Real Salt Lake (5-2-2) has lost two of its last three games.
SOUNDERS 2, EARTHQUAKES 0
SEATTLE (AP) — Clint Dempsey rocketed in a shot from straight in front of the goal in the 26th minute, Jordan Morris scored for the fourth straight game and Seattle beat San Jose.
Dempsey’s goal, from just beyond the top of the penalty spot, was his second of the season.
Morris scored from the top of the penalty area restraining arc in the 89th minute. That tied the MLS record for consecutive games with a goal for a rookie.
The Sounders (4-4-1) have points in five of their last six games (4-1-1).
Goalkeeper Stefan Frei earned his second straight shutout. He got some help from the left goalpost in the 84th minute when San Jose's Chris Wondolowski banged a penalty kick off of it.
It was the first time in 23 games that the Earthquakes (4-3-3) were shut out.
TORNTO FC 1, FC DALLAS 0
TORONTO (AP) — Rookie Tsubasa Endoh scored his first MLS goal in Toronto FC’s victory over FC Dallas in the Canadian team's home opener.
Sebastian Giovinco set up the 28th-minute goal for Toronto (4-3-2) in front of a sellout crowd of 30,025 at renovated BMO Field. Clint Irwin had is fourth shutout of the season. Giovinco has had a hand in all 10 Toronto goals this season, scoring six and assisting on the other four.
Dallas finished with 10 men after goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez was stretchered off with a neck injury in the 89th minute, forcing fullback Ryan Hollingshead to put on the goalie gloves for the six minutes of added time as the visitors had used all their subs.
Dallas (5-4-2) has lost three straight and failed to score in 292 minutes.
DYNAMO 2, SPORTING KANSAS CITY 0
HOUSTON (AP) — Giles Barnes and Andrew Wenger scored in the first half and Houston beat Sporting Kansas City.
Houston (2-5-2) snapped a three-game losing streak and a six-game winless stretch. It was the Dynamo’s first win since a 5–0 victory against FC Dallas on March 12.

Barnes scored from distance in the 30th minute. He ran past the defense to win Erick Torres’s through ball and Barnes angled it past goalkeeper Tim Melia. Wenger doubled Houston’s lead in the first minute of first-half stoppage time when he powered a shot past Melia.
Sporting KC (4-5-2) has not won in six games.
IMPACT 4, CREW 4, TIE
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Dominic Oduro scored in the 93rd minute and Montreal rallied to tie Columbus.r Drogba had a glancing header of Ambroise Oyongo’s long throw in and Oduro was left open at the far post for an easy finish.
Montreal (4-3-3) was down 4–1 early in the second half but Drogba pulled the Impact to 4-2 on a penalty kick in the 57th minute, and Ignacio Piatti cut it to 4–3 a minute later when he finished Oduro’s back pass.
Kei Kamara opened the scoring in the 16th minute for Columbus (2-4-3) after heading home Justin Meram's cross. Piatti tied it at 1–1 in the 26th minute on a curled shot, but Kamara gave the Crew a 2–1 lead in first-half stoppage time. Kamara ran past the Impact defense to win Michael Parkhurst’s long ball, pulling out goalkeeper Evan Bush, and Kamara touched the ball into the open net.
Federico Higuain made it 3–1 in the 48th by controlling a loose ball in the 6-yard box and easing a ball into the back of the net. Higuain scored his second goal in five minutes when he netted a penalty kick to put Columbus up 4–1.
