Tottenham signs manager Mauricio Pochettino through 2021

One of Tottenham's biggest offseason questions has already been answered before the current season is even over. 

Manager Mauricio Pochettino is staying put, having inked a long-term extension with Spurs through 2021, the club announced on Thursday. 

Pochettino has guided Tottenham to a Champions League berth in his second season at the club and has built a strong core of young talent, relying on up-and-coming English stars to lay a foundation for the present and future. Tottenham pushed Leicester City in the Premier League title race, ultimately succumbing following a 2-2 draw at Chelsea.

Pochettino had reportedly been seen meeting with former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson in recent days, and the rumor mill had linked Pochettino to Old Trafford as potential replacement for Louis van Gaal. Instead, he'll be staying put at White Hart Lane for the foreseeable future.

"I could not be happier to sign this new contract. It was an easy decision for my coaching staff and I because we can feel the appreciation of everyone here–there is no better place to be right now," Pochettino said in a club statement. "This club has all the ingredients to continue to challenge at the very top in both the Premier League and in Europe and we want to be here to be a part of what I believe will be a special period in the club's history.”

Pochettino's first-team staff will remain in place as well, with Jesus Perez, Miguel D'Agostino and Toni Jimenez all agreeing to new deals.

"We have seen Mauricio bring a tremendous spirit and ethos to our club and embrace the attacking style of play with which we have always been associated," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy said. "He has built a squad of youth and experience and this season we have seen football played at the highest level–quite sublime at times. Everyone at the club is delighted he has agreed an extended contract and we all look forward to working with him in the coming seasons. I know he is as ambitious for our club as we all are."
