USA's Bobby Wood signs four-year deal with Hamburg
Bobby Wood's prolific season has paid off with a move to the Bundesliga.
Wood, the U.S. men's national team forward, has signed a four-year deal with Hamburg, making the move from 2. Bundesliga's Union Berlin.
Wood, 23, has scored 17 goals for Union Berlin entering Sunday's season finale, including one stretch when he scored in seven straight league matches. He'll join a Hamburg squad that finished 10th in the Bundesliga and scored 40 goals in 34 matches.
Wood has scored four goals for the U.S., and they've each come with a level of significance. His back-to-back goals in the waning minutes last June lifted the USA to friendly wins at the Netherlands and Germany. He scored a valuable extra-time equalizer against Mexico in the CONCACAF Cup last October (only for the USA to fall on Paul Aguilar's goal 10 minutes later), and he also netted a World Cup qualifying goal against St. Vincent and the Grenadines as the U.S. kicked off its road to Russia 2018.
His form and this forward career move makes him a prime candidate for one of Jurgen Klinsmann's 23 roster places at Copa America Centenario.
