Castillo replaces Chandler on USA's Copa America roster
Jurgen Klinsmann has replaced the injured Timmy Chandler with Edgar Castillo on the U.S. men's national team's Copa America Centenario roster, U.S. Soccer announced on Friday.
Chandler was hurt playing for Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga relegation playoff, which his club won to stay in Germany's top flight. Chandler suffered a quadriceps strain during the game-winning-goal sequence, though, and has been deemed unfit for Copa America. Castillo, who is still on club duty with Monterrey in the Liga MX final, will replace him. The replacement had to come from Klinsmann's 40-man preliminary roster. Tim Ream, Kellyn Acosta and Eric Lichaj were other fullback options that Klinsmann could have turned to for his replacement.
Castillo has 18 caps with the U.S. and started both World Cup qualifying matches against Guatemala in March. He'll join the U.S. after the Liga MX final, which will conclude on Sunday.
Elsewhere in the U.S. defense, Klinsmann said that Geoff Cameron is fully fit and available for Saturday's friendly against Bolivia, which is the final tune-up before next Friday's Copa America opener against Colombia. Cameron missed Wednesday's 1-0 win over Ecuador.
