Griezmann delivers France late winner, seals Euro knockout berth
France has made a habit of leaving it late at Euro 2016.
The host nation won with a second straight last-minute winner, as Antoine Griezmann came off the bench and delivered a header in a 2-0 victory over a resolute Albania. Griezmann and Paul Pogba were benched by manager Didier Deschamps in a stunning development, but both came on in the second half to help turn the tide. Albania's organized defending held for the majority of the match, but on France's first attempt on target, it scored.
Adil Rami's cross from the right found Griezmann, unmarked, at the edge of the six-yard box, and the Atletico Madrid forward came through in the 90th minute. It follows Dimitri Payet's 89th-minute winner against Romania. Payet capped off the scoring with a finish five minutes into stoppage time, and France is the first team to clinch a place in the knockout stage as a result.
