Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play for Real Madrid until he is 41 years old
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo says he wants to play for the club for 10 more years and retire at age 41.
According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Real Madrid wants to extend Ronaldo's contract for at least two years past its current expiration in June 2018. When asked about the potential extension, Ronaldo said he was hopeful it would happen.
"That's what I want," Ronaldo said, according to Diario AS. "I'm in the best club in the world and I want to finish in this club at 41. Now I need to be calm, but the goal is to extend my contract and stay here."
Ronaldo won the UEFA Best Player in Europe award on Thursday, beating out Antoine Griezmann and Gareth Bale for the prize.
"It's a very important trophy, completing a great year," Ronaldo said. "I have to thank my Madrid teammates and the national team."
The 31-year-old forward led Real Madrid to the Champions League title last season and helped Portugal win the 2016 European Championship. Last season, he scored 35 goals for Madrid in La Liga play, 16 in Champions League competitions and three goals during the Euro 2016 tournament.
