USWNT still tops FIFA rankings despite early Olympics exit, Canada No. 4

The United States women's national team maintained the No. 1 spot in the latest FIFA ranking, released Friday, while Canada vaulted to its highest position ever thanks to winning a second straight bronze medal at the Rio Olympics.

The USWNT was ousted in the Olympic quarterfinals by Sweden, failing to reach the medal round for the first time. The team saw its lead shrink to 25 points over second-ranked and Olympic gold medalist Germany.

France is ranked third, followed by Canada, which jumped 93 points to achieve its first top-five ranking. The 93-point gain is the highest of any team in the 13-year history of the FIFA women's ranking.

England is No. 5, Sweden, the Olympic silver medalist, comes in sixth on the list, followed by Australia, Japan, North Korea and Brazil, rounding out the Top 10. Brazil's No. 10 ranking is its lowest ever.

South Africa (48th), Faroe Islands (75th) and Uganda (129th) each achieved its highest ranking ever.
