Manchester City vs Monchengladbach Champions League match postponed

Torrential downpours and lightening forced the postponement of Manchester City's Champions League clash vs. Borussia Monchengladbach.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — The Champions League match between Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach has been called off following heavy rain and thunder in Manchester.

The Group C game was postponed 20 minutes before the scheduled kickoff of 2:45 p.m. Eastern time at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday. City said the decision was made to call off the game because of "adverse weather conditions."

There had been heavy rain and thunder in the hours leading up to the game, and UEFA officials and match officials inspected the playing surface about an hour before the game. Neither set of players had been out to warm up.

Monchengladbach players and staff went out to salute fans who had made the trip from Germany and braved the elements at the Etihad.

Roads in Manchester city center were flooded.

The match will be made up on Wednesday at 2:45 p.m. ET.
