Bayern Munich draws Real Madrid to headline Champions League quarterfinals

The four pairings are set for the quarterfinal round of the 2016-17 Champions League.

Four intriguing matchups came out of the pots in Nyon, Switzerland, on Friday, with Bayern Munich being paired with Real Madrid to headline the Champions League quarterfinal draw.

Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti guided Real Madrid to the 2013-2014 title with current Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane as his assistant, and the two will match wits over the course of two legs to determine which will advance to the semifinals.

Elsewhere, Dani Alves will return to his former team, with Juventus drawing Barcelona in a rematch of the 2015 final. Leicester City's improbable run meets its greatest test, with the Foxes going up against Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, while Christian Pulisic and Borussia Dortmund will take on Monaco in a clash of high-flying foes.

Here are the four pairings:

Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid (first leg April 12 in Munich; second leg April 18 in Madrid)

Juventus vs. Barcelona (first leg April 11 in Turin; second leg April 19 in Barcelona)

Atletico Madrid vs. Leicester City (first leg April 12 in Madrid; second leg April 18 in Leicester)

Borussia Dortmund vs. Monaco (first leg April 11 in Dortmund; second leg April 19 in Monaco)

The four winners advance to the semifinals, where a place in the June 3 final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium will be on the line.

With Shakespeare at reins, Leicester writes stunning Champions League chapter

Real Madrid is vying to become the first team to repeat as Champions League winner since AC Milan accomplished the feat in 1989-1990. Spanish sides have won the last three Champions League trophies, with Real Madrid winning in 2014 and 2016, sandwiching Barcelona's 2015 title.
